Ma'am: noun, Used as a form of polite address for a woman.
I hate this word!! I rented movies last night and I got called "Ma'am" 5 times when I was checking out. Now I can see being called "Ma'am" if you're in your 50's or something (sorry mom!), it just sounds like a word for older women.....but I'm only 28!! It just gets kind of annoying and what makes it even more annoying is when the person that is calling you "Ma'am" is just about the same age and yourself. So why can't they use a more younger sounding term, like "Miss"??? "Miss" doesn't make me feel like an old hag. I guess I'll never figure it out.....
